Modern Media can go LOVE itself. I’m not gonna lie, the older I get the more I’m starting to hate anything that’s on TV. Whether it’s the games I play, the anime I watch or the movies that come out, I just can’t be bothered to watch them anymore. It took me quite a while to actually figure out why modern media is bothering me so much, but it took re-watching one of my favorite Anime, Black Lagoon, to actually get to the root of it all. Let me explain:Black Lagoon is about a couple of modern-day pirates doing odd, illegal jobs to get by, located somewhere in a godforsaken city in South-East Asia. These pirates don’t give a damn about anyone or anything and you know what I like so much about it: instead of making something dramatic out of it all, pretending like their way of life is full of hardships, we just get the raw versions: these people are criminals and are having the time of their lives. Because guess what: life isn’t black and white. Everything that we do, even if we believe we’re doing the right thing, is gray and morally ambiguous. And Black Lagoon portrays the immorality of life as is. It doesn’t try to give these characters any true morality. It doesn’t try to explain why these characters commit crimes. In fact, it doesn’t care whether you believe the characters are right or wrong. It refuses to give you the backstories of these characters because it doesn’t matter. Just like your backstory and life in general doesn’t matter to 99.99% of the entire population. In fact, if your backstory matters to only 1 person walking on this planet you should consider yourself lucky.And this, ladies & gentlemen, is why I HATE modern media. Every game, movie and TV series has to have a message. And not just any message, no no, it should portray life as black and white as it can and it makes me feel like a freaking kid. It makes me feel like modern media isn’t taking its audience seriously. It feels like they’re treating us like idiots having to teach us what is right and wrong and it truly sickens me. And fortunately I am not the only one. This political correctness that is plaguing over our media is being criticized more often. For me, personally, I find it hard to get into any kind of new show nowadays. In fact, I rather play old games, watch old anime & enjoy old movies and TV shows instead of watching today’s garbage. I recently started watching Shogun and the first episodes gripped me quite a bit as a history buff and history teacher. But we’ll see if this show will be ruined by PC too. Fingers crossed I guess...Anyway, rant over, enjoy the rest of your day folks! I know I will.
