Originally named Nashi, the patrol ship JDS Wakaba had an interesting life. A short career as a destroyer of the IJN, before being sunk towards the end of WW2. She would be salvaged in 1954, and promptly repaired and refit for renewed service.

In the process becoming the one and only IJN warship to serve in the Maritime Self Defense Force.
