When you think 'WW2 Destroyer lasting until the 21st Century' you probably think of Fletchers or Gearings.

You almost certainly don't think of Royal Navy destroyers. Most of those were out of service in the middle of the Cold War, at the high end. Perhaps the 1980s or 1990s, if you really stretch things. Or count massive rebuilds.

However, HMS Zenith is- perhaps -the longest lasting of any WW2 destroyer. While the exact time she left service is a bit foggy, somewhere between 2004 and 2014 is the most likely date. The Egyptian navy, under the name ENS El Fateh, kept this ship around for a very long time.

Alas, the ship would not last long after that. By the middle of 2016, by all indications, the ship was scrapped. A shame, in that regard.
