In 2013, around 18 million tons of copper ores were extracted around the globe. With production reaching around 6 million tons, Chile was recorded as the largest producer of copper on Earth. Furthermore, for over two centuries, the United States penny was made entirely out of copper. In today’s video, we will explore the world of copper mining and see how mine workers extract ores and refine them to make copper.


Copper metal is one of the most traded metals on earth due to its uses and properties. Used in architecture, electronics, transportation, and many other phases of manufacturing, the procedure of mining and processing copper is done through various methods which include blasting, mining, and refining.
