Existing buildings contribute to 40% of greenhouse emissions globally, and reductions in this energy use is needed. Larissa looks at how easy it is to make these improvements. Larissa aspires to design building systems in order to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants associated with buildings, and even start to improve the surrounding environment. She currently analyses existing and heritage buildings through energy and hydrothermal modelling to identify the most appropriate retrofits to reduce energy consumption, while also respecting the value in components of a building. She is passionate about conservation and adaptive reuse to allow a heritage building to optimally fulfill its purpose in the current time. She won the IBPSA Rome 2019 energy modelling competition with a team of students and the APT student scholarship award during her M.A.Sc. thanks to her thesis research and related work on heritage conservation and sustainability. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
