The Dawn Mine trail is located in Altadena. The mine was worked intermittently from 1895 when gold was first discovered until the 1950s. It has been visited by hikers since the early 1900s

The hike to the mine is approximately 5.5 miles out and back. The canyon section of the trail is shaded and cool. Some areas towards the end require some boulder hopping. Along the canyon floor you will see rusting pipes and other assorted mining machinery.

The upper and lower mine adits are blocked-off with steel gates. There’s an exploratory dig further up the mountain that you can enter and explore. It’s only about 50 feet long.

Hope you enjoy the video.
