This is a story of unrequited love from Regina's POV. The timing wasn't right, and they never got together. It's a recollection of memories of her love for Emma, how everything started and how it ended. (It's before she was able to reunite with her in the S7 finale.) She constantly lost her (they constantly lost each other), but Regina never stopped loving her all the same. I'm so sorry for the angst (not really). As soon as I heard this song, I knew I'd have something angsty in my hands, possibly without a happy ending. Oops?
