In this episode, I design and laser cut custom magnetic health and XP dials for Frosthaven.
I design in Adobe Illustrator, and I use my drawing to do virtual testing as well as drive my laser cutter via LightBurn.
I use a variety of materials, including leather, to make attractive dials that are also very functional. I show how to make the top perfectly symmetrical, so you can flip it and engrave magnet holes on the back. I show how to test for polarity, to ensure that all the tops and number dials are interchangeable. I talk about the various materials, including the best way to adhere the leather to the plywood before cutting.
