Can artificial intelligence or AI help the environment? Can AI protect humans from climate change and advance environmental protection? Will AI shape human behaviour to protect biodiversity and ecosystems?

In today's rapidly evolving world, artificial intelligence (AI) emerges as a beacon of hope in tackling environmental challenges. From predicting climate change impacts to optimizing resource use, AI's potential to aid environmental conservation is immense. This video explores how AI technologies are revolutionizing our approach to preserving the planet.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science dedicated to creating systems capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. These tasks include learning, decision-making, and problem-solving. AI can be broadly categorized into two types: machine learning and deep learning. Machine learning involves algorithms that enable computers to learn from and make predictions or decisions based on data, without being explicitly programmed for each task. Deep learning, a subset of machine learning, utilizes neural networks with many layers (hence "deep") to analyze vast amounts of data, learning to identify patterns and features at a level of complexity and abstraction that mimics human cognition.

The planet is currently facing an unprecedented environmental crisis, highlighted by climate change, rampant pollution, and significant biodiversity loss. Climate change, driven by greenhouse gas emissions from human activities, is causing global temperatures to rise, leading to more extreme weather events, melting ice caps, and rising sea levels. Pollution, in the form of air, water, and soil contamination, poses severe risks to human health and ecosystems. Additionally, biodiversity loss, driven by habitat destruction, overexploitation, pollution, and climate change, threatens the delicate balance necessary for the planet's health and the survival of countless species. In this dire context, AI offers a beacon of hope, providing innovative tools to better understand, monitor, and mitigate these environmental challenges.
