With cloud storage, the footage captured by your security cameras is automatically uploaded to a remote server that you can access from anywhere with any device. Local storage is the method that involves storing footage captured by your security cameras on a physical device, such as a hard drive or a memory card. The hard drive is kept inside of the network video recorder, or NVR for short.

Cloud storage provides a very user-friendly setup process and easy remote access but can be more expensive. Local storage can be more cost-effective and provides greater privacy but will be more susceptible to external damage.
