Let’s replace the battery in our Subaru Outback key fob. Our Outback is a 2012 model and I expect this process will be the same on other 2010 - 2014 Outback and Legacy models that have the same metal key connected fob. (Take a minute and pop open your fob before buying a replacement battery to be certain) This video may be relevant on other Subaru models that use this same key attached fob design.

Lately our fob had become unreliable, and sometimes didn’t work at all to lock or unlock. In the 6+ years that we’ve had our Outback, (we bought it used) I have not replaced the battery in either fob, so they do last a while.

With simple tools this is an inexpensive DIY that can be done in just a few minutes. I bought a 2-pack of batteries so that I could replace the battery in both fobs.

Used in the video:
Panasonic CR1620 3v https://amzn.to/3M92g60
Precision screwdrivers https://amzn.to/46Sx0jw
