Pineknot Campgrounds is our favorite place to camp in Big Bear, CA. Open from mid-April to October, the campground is a beauty with 47 spacious sites and plenty of shade covering the grounds to beat the heat during a summer stay.

Their large sites are perfect for campers. The distance from the site's pad to the campfire pit and bench is the furthest we’ve experienced, providing plenty of room to set up games or create large communal spaces without feeling cramped or on top of your neighbors.

Outside of your area, Pineknot also has clean restrooms with flushing toilets, which is great, but no showers. Exploring the grounds, you’ll see a tiny stream trickling through some areas and the hibernated chairlights of Snow Summit, eagerly waiting for the next snow season nearby.

That being said, Pineknot Campgrounds is in a great location near the middle of Big Bear. Close to Big Bear Blvd, access to all the city's stores and restaurants is super helpful for any families camping with kids.
