The best Toyota Land Cruiser money can buy is the Lexus LX – tested here in LX 570 petrol V8 guise. Powered by a 5.7-litre naturally aspirated V8, the 2021 LX might be the last one ever offered with a traditional, bigger-is-better atmo V8. It’s expected that the next LX, based on the 300 Series Land Cruiser, will use a twin-turbo V6 petrol engine instead.

But is the LX 570 S a good buy so late in the life of the 200 Series? Is this seriously better than a Land Cruiser Sahara? Should you save your money and buy a Nissan Patrol? Or is something car-based like a Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7 or Range Rover actually a more appropriate fit for your family?
