The dual cab ute segment is chocka-block full of vehicles that can do more than just move stuff from worksite to worksite. Many family car buyers are shopping for a 4x4 pickup because these sorts of vehicles now offer equivalent levels of safety, comfort, technology and capability as SUVs or other types of cars.

So in this test, our family reviewer Nedahl Stelio puts two almost identical utes under the microscope to see which is the best bet for a family ute buyer: the Isuzu D-Max or the Mazda BT-50.

These two double cab 4WD pick-up trucks are made on the same production line, drive almost identically, have the same engines and transmissions, but offer different price points, styling, interior finishes and overall different levels of appeal, depending on your tastes.
