We’re ready for Spring here in Newfoundland. A beautiful sunny day exploring Signal Hill gave us a little glimpse of the upcoming season. This episode we take you for a walk around the historic Cabot Tower.

In 1897, Cabot Tower was commissioned to commemorate the 400th anniversary of John Cabot’s discovery of Newfoundland and Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. An excellent example of late-Gothic Revival architecture, the tower was designed by St. John’s architect William Howe Greene.

Cabot Tower is a must see – a stone fortress at the top of the hill where soldiers and signalmen kept a watchful eye.

In addition to the site’s history, it boasts breathtaking views of St. John’s and the rugged coast of the Avalon Peninsula. There is also a hiking trail which leads from Cabot Tower to the Battery and back.
