In Islam we are encouraged to visit graveyards, because it reminds us of the hereafter. There are two things that you should do. The first thing is to reflect upon the temporary nature of this life, death and think about the hereafter.

The second important thing is to make dua for those who are buried. Rasool Allah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ taught a dua to Mother Aishah on what one needs to recite when visiting a grave.

Ustadha Taimiyyah Zubair answers and explains...

Transliteraion - As-salamu 'alaykum ahli ad-diyari min al-mu'minin wal-muslimin wa inna I sha' Allahu bikum lana faratun wa nahnu lakum taba'un, as'alullahal-'afiyata lana wa lakum.
Translation - Peace by upon the inhabitants of this place among the believers and Muslims. Soon we will join you, if Allah willing. You have gone on ahead of us and we will follow you. I ask Allah to keep us and you safe and sound.
