O.J Simpson has died at the age of 76 years old.

In a public statement, Simpson’s family wrote that he had “succumbed to his battle with cancer.”

Orenthal James “OJ” Simpson was considered one of the best American football players of all time and quickly became a cultural icon.

But Simpson was best known for his highly publicised and contested murder trial.

He was tried and eventually acquitted of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman.

But the case has continued to spark decades of speculation and has been the topic of numerous popular documentaries.

In 2008, he was sentenced to 33 years' imprisonment on charges of armed robbery.

He was finally released in 2017.
