Clinical psychologist Dr Armon Tamatea considers the function of psychopathy in society: why do we need psychopaths?

Answering the question ‘what is psychopathy’ and exploring what we can learn from non-criminal psychopaths, who function and contribute to society, underpins this highly fascinating talk.

Dr Armon Tamatea is a clinical psychologist and senior lecturer in psychology at the University of Waikato, New Zealand.

Previously a senior research advisor for the Department of Corrections where he worked extensively in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of violent, sexual and high-risk psychopathic offenders. His current research interests include psychopathy, gang communities, criminal justice and indigenous peoples, and institutional violence in prisons.
