In a breakthrough deal, the US has approved a grant of $6 billion for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). Washington aims to help the firm set-up three chip-making factories in the state of Arizona in an effort expand production of chips in America. The US aims to boost the production of homegrown chips as the global race for semiconductors heats up. President Joe Biden, in a statement, has said that "America invented these chips, but over time, we went from producing nearly 40% of the world’s capacity to close to 10%, and none of the most advanced chips." Washington has reportedly set aside $50 billion in an effort to boost production of semiconductor chips. However, China remains its biggest competitor, is determined to catch up.
