Forecasters are now pushing back their interest rate cut predictions to November or December, while markets are bitting the first cut will come next year.

But there is some relief in sight for businesses and households with mortgages.

Some economists say the revised stage three tax cuts that come into effect from mid-year are as good as one or two interest rate cuts.

The Reserve Bank will hold its next meeting on interest rates on May 7.
