Electric cars are seen by many people as a way to drastically cut CO2 emissions – Mandates are panned in several European countries to restrict ICE cars
Electric cars do produce significantly less other pollutants NOx, Sox, CO , particulates etc
We already have an exemplar Norway – the largest per capita EV market (in 2021 90% of new cars were BEV as was nearly 20% of their total fleet)
BUT
Norwegian CO2 emissions per capita have reduced but relatively less than the Nordic Neighbours – who have far fewer electric cars as a share of their fleet
Norwegian oil consumption has also declined much less than the Nordic neighbours
All of the EV incentives have cost a lot, are there better ways to decarbonise?
