Seismic surface waves can be used to make geologic observations of the subsurface from the top meter down to kilometers below ground. A common application of surface waves is to use them to create shear wave velocity models for the top 30 meters of the subsurface (VS30) which is used in foundation and structural engineering. The 1D active MASW method is a popular an accurate method for generating VS30 models.

The second video of our three part 1D active MASW covers field setup and data acquisition best practices for the 1D active MASW method. In this video a 24-ch Geode was used with a 2 meter spacing and 4.5 Hz geophones. Four end shots were performed, two on each side.
