The first generation of Honda Ridgeline went on sale in March 2005 and ended sales in early 2015. It was not the best-selling pickup truck on the US market but it had a lot of first in the class innovations which were:
- Trunk-mount in the trunk bed;
- The fully-independent suspension which made Ridgeline the best driving truck on the market;
- Ultra-low emissions (an industry first for a truck in North America);
- Advanced safety and technology earning the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) Top Safety Pick-Plus award (a segment first);
- Dual-action tailgate;
- Scratch and dent-resistant half-ton capacity composite bed;
- Large interior for a mid-size pickup.

- Undercarriage inspection;
- Problems and repair costs;
- Reliability.
