The Ford Maverick is back! Ford has revived the Maverick nameplate from the 1970s, but instead of the compact sedans and coupes that made up that vintage Maverick lineup, Ford takes a hard left and releases the Maverick as a small pickup truck. In this video, Travis Langness from Edmunds explores the new Ford Maverick truck and explains everything you need to know. This is the 2022 Ford Maverick reveal.

The Maverick is small. It's smaller than the Ford Ranger, but that's kind of the point. And there's really not much to compare it to right now outside of the recently unveiled Hyundai Santa Cruz.

The new Maverick's squarish design helps it look and feel like a truck. Under the hood, the Maverick has a hybrid drivetrain with a 2.5-liter engine that produces 191 horsepower. Ford is shooting for the Maverick to get 40 mpg of city driving, which is very impressive for any pickup.

Inside the Maverick, Ford offers an impressive suite of tech features. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard, as is an 8-inch touchscreen, two USB ports (one USB-A and one USB-C), 4G LTE Wi-Fi capability and a six-speaker stereo. One notable exclusion is an integrated navigation system, but we think Ford came to the realization that this feature just isn't as necessary as it once was. The Maverick also has plenty of room for a compact truck. Two average-size adults can comfortably fit in the front seats, while two adults or three children should have no trouble squeezing in the back.

The Ford Maverick is here and is ready to take on all challengers. OK, there might not be any real challengers just yet, but it'll be ready when there are. If the preliminary towing, hauling and fuel economy numbers hold up for the Maverick, it will dominate a class that it had a large hand in resurrecting. Ford's small pickup should entice buyers who think the Ranger is too big or who don't need the capabilities of an F-150. Instead, the new Ford Maverick should appeal to shoppers who might never have considered a pickup truck before. With the impressive fuel economy numbers and compact size, the Maverick is sure to be a hit with city dwellers. This is our first look at the brand-new 2022 Ford Maverick.
