OHTM Ground Vehicle Conservator Warren Kincaid and Registrar Jonah Carter discuss the 1908 Sears Motor Buggy.

Before OHTM's specific 1908 Sears Motor Buggy came into our possession it was
owned by a man named Harvey Gamage. Mr. Gamage was the owner of the Gamage Shipyard in
South Bristol, Maine from until 1976 when he passed away. After which, his wife, Mrs. Jennie
Plummer Gamage, loaned the Motor Buggy to our museum on May 14, 1977.
The Sears Motor Buggy remained at the museum until Mrs. Gamage entered the Sears
Motor Buggy in the 1990 New England Auto Auction, where it was purchased by Mr. Salim B.
Lewis and his wife Mrs. Barbara A. Lewis. Since the Motor Buggy had become a staple of
OHTM, the Assistant Director and Curator at the time, David Machaiek, reached out to Mr.
Lewis about keeping the Motor Buggy on loan at the museum. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis agreed, and
the Motor Buggy was once again placed on loan to the museum on August 26, 1990. OHTM
purchased it from Mr. and Mrs. Lewis in 1994 and it has remained here since.
