It’s no secret that Hollywood is obsessed with youth, and that they absolutely love to cast extremely young people to play older roles. Look at every “teenager” on tv, and if you can find one that isn’t over the age of twenty, we owe you a Coke. From The OC and Gossip Girl, to The CW’s slate of shows like Riverdale, Vampire Diaries, Nancy Drew, and more, there is no shortage of twenty-somethings playing teens on TV. But what about their parents? Well, most of them are way younger than you might think, and sometimes the age gap between parents and their on-screen kids is borderline hilarious! And it happens in movies too! Most recently, we have Ginny and Georgia, the new Netflix series with a Gilmore Girls-ish storyline about a young mom and her daughter. While Georgia did have Ginny when she was only fifteen, in real life their age gap is a whole lot smaller. Xo on Jane The Virgin wasn’t even ten years older than her daughter, and Mandy Moore on This Is Us is actually younger than all three of her children; Sterling K Brown, Chrissy Metz, and Justin Hartley! One character on Outlander is only two years older than her TV daughter, Samuel L Jackson is actually older than his on-screen mom in Glass, and the ancient epic Alexander featured a 29 year old Angelina Jolie playing Colin Ferrel’s mother… when he was twenty eight. And these examples aren’t even scratching the surface of all of the tiniest age gaps between Hollywood parents and their children!
