Personal hygiene is part of our deen
It is part of our religion, as Muslims, to look and smell good

- Hadith: عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ لَمَّا خَرَجَتِ الْحَرُورِيَّةُ أَتَيْتُ عَلِيًّا - رضى الله عنه - فَقَالَ ائْتِ هَؤُلاَءِ الْقَوْمَ ‏.‏ فَلَبِسْتُ أَحْسَنَ مَا يَكُونُ مِنْ حُلَلِ الْيَمَنِ - قَالَ أَبُو زُمَيْلٍ وَكَانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَجُلاً جَمِيلاً جَهِيرًا - قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فَأَتَيْتُهُمْ فَقَالُوا مَرْحَبًا بِكَ يَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ مَا هَذِهِ الْحُلَّةُ قَالَ مَا تَعِيبُونَ عَلَىَّ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَحْسَنَ مَا يَكُونُ مِنَ الْحُلَلِ ‏.‏
o Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: When the Haruriyyah made a revolt, I came to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: Go to these people. I then put on the best suit of the Yemen. AbuZumayl (a transmitter) said: Ibn Abbas was handsome and of imposing countenance. Ibn Abbas said: I then came to them and they said: Welcome to you, Ibn Abbas! what is this suit of clothes? I said: Why are you objecting to me? I saw over the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) the best suit of clothes. [Abu Dawud]

Looking good & clean:
- Clothing wise
o It Is narrated on the authority of Abdullah b. Mas'ud that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), observed: He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter Paradise. A person (amongst his hearers) said: Verily a person loves that his dress should be fine, and his shoes should be fine. He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: Verily, Allah is Graceful and He loves Grace. Pride is disdaining the truth (out of self-conceit) and contempt for the people. [Muslim]

o Hadith: Jabir ibn Abdullah said:جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم
 وَرَأَى رَجُلاً آخَرَ وَعَلَيْهِ ثِيَابٌ وَسِخَةٌ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ أَمَا كَانَ هَذَا يَجِدُ مَاءً يَغْسِلُ بِهِ ثَوْبَهُ ‏"
 The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) paid visit to us, and saw … another man wearing dirty clothes and said: Could this man not find something to wash his garments with. [Abu Dawud]

- Hair cleanliness
o Hadith: Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: “مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ شَعْرٌ فَلْيُكْرِمْهُ”
 “He who has hair should honor it.”[Abu Dawud]

 Hadith: Jabir ibn Abdullah said:جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَرَأَى رَجُلاً شَعِثًا قَدْ تَفَرَّقَ شَعْرُهُ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ أَمَا كَانَ يَجِدُ هَذَا مَا يُسَكِّنُ بِهِ شَعْرَهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَرَأَى رَجُلاً آخَرَ وَعَلَيْهِ ثِيَابٌ وَسِخَةٌ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ أَمَا كَانَ هَذَا يَجِدُ مَاءً يَغْسِلُ بِهِ ثَوْبَهُ ‏"
• The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) paid visit to us, and saw a messy man whose hair was disordered. He said: Could this man not find something to make his hair lie down? … [Abu Dawud]
Smelling Good:
- Overall body
o Hadith: عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ حُبِّبَ إِلَىَّ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا النِّسَاءُ وَالطِّيبُ وَجُعِلَ قُرَّةُ عَيْنِي فِي الصَّلاَةِ ‏"
 It was narrated that Anas said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'In this world, women and perfume have been made dear to me, and my comfort has been provided in prayer.'" [An-Nasai’]

- Especially the smell of our breath
o Narration: Miqdam b. Shuraih narrated from his father who said: “سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ قُلْتُ بِأَىِّ شَىْءٍ كَانَ يَبْدَأُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا دَخَلَ بَيْتَهُ قَالَتْ بِالسِّوَاكِ ‏.‏”
 “I asked A'isha what Allah's messenger (ﷺ) did first when he entered his house, and she replied: (he starts) with the siwaak (i.e. with brushing his teeth).” [Al-Bukhari]

o Hadith: عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي عَتِيقٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ، سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ السِّوَاكُ مَطْهَرَةٌ لِلْفَمِ مَرْضَاةٌ لِلرَّبِّ ‏"‏ ‏.‏
 'Abdur-Rahman bin Abu 'Atiq said: "My father told me: 'I heard 'Aishah say, (narrating) from the Prophet (ﷺ): "Siwak is a means of purification for the mouth and is pleasing to the Lord." [An-Nasai’]
Care about how you good & clean you look and smell even in the sight:
- To people in general

 Someone may say: I do not find a bad smell from myself, it is possible you got used to it.

- Especially family

- And above all to Allah
o Hadith: إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ
 Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty. [Muslim]

o Verse: Allah says: ۞ يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ خُذُوا۟ زِينَتَكُمْ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍۢ وَكُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ وَلَا تُسْرِفُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ
 O Children of Adam! Dress properly whenever you are at worship. Eat and drink, but do not waste. Surely He does not like the wasteful. 7:31
