Dan explores Revelation 1.7 and contends that it was firstly fulfilled in the first century during the culmination of the Roman/Jewish war: the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple.

Scripture References: Revelation 1.7; Daniel 7.13; Zechariah 12.10; Matthew 24.30; Matthew 4.17; Matthew 23.37-38; Acts 3.19-20; Acts 21.20; Revelation 22.12; Revelation 1.19

What do you think? Is it fair to think that the coming of Jesus referenced in Revelation 1.7 refers to Jesus coming in judgment -- that is, Israel receiving the consequences of rejecting Jesus?

Though commentator G.K. Beale does not agree with Preterist interpretations of this verse, he does concede that verse 7 can be understood as Jesus coming in judgement at different points in history, understanding that everything will culminate in his final “second coming.”

“…Christ’s coming in v. 7 and elsewhere in Revelation is understood better as a process occurring throughout history, so that His so-called ‘second coming’ is actually a final coming concluding the whole process of comings. Consequently His ‘comings’ in blessing and judgment throughout the course of time are but manifestations of His exercise of latter-day authority.” (“Revelation: A Shorter Commentary” by G. K. Beale)
