All New 2022 Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid - Stylish Comfy SUV!

After a full redesign for the 2021 model year, the Kia Sorento gets a new powertrain choice for 2022: a plug-in hybrid. The Sorento PHEV has the same edgy styling and three-row cabin as any other Sorento but brings considerable all-electric driving range and improved fuel economy. It's offered exclusively in a six-passenger seating arrangement.

Stylish, versatile, and well made, the Kia Sorento is finally actually desirable. But as efficient as its available hybrid powertrain is, we've found it to be a lackluster performer. We hope the driving experience is different on the plug-in hybrid model, which boasts an additional 34 hp.

Even if its acceleration doesn't improve much, the Sorento PHEV's all-electric driving range gives it distinct appeal. That it can cover enough ground for many drivers' daily needs on electricity alone is a real perk—have you seen gas prices these days? On longer trips, the Sorento PHEV's improved fuel economy and long total driving range come in handy.

For the moment, the Sorento PHEV is in a segment of one. There isn't another plug-in hybrid three-row SUV on sale outside of the luxury realm. That will change soon, but as of now this crossover stands on its own. Don't fret that it's the only option—the Sorento is a well-executed crossover regardless of what's under the hood.
