In a series of experiments, some typical results of which are presented here, we try to assess the degree of attention and alertness of young children in a situation that puts two children of the same age into contact in our experimental cabin. We observe their first elements of gestural communication and note the rudimentary attempts at imitation. We also take into account the attitudes of acceptance and rejection of the situation, as well as the strategies employed by the child to reduce his anxiety.
