We all are aware of the hadith mentioning that backbiting is eating the flesh of your dead brother. It is indeed a severe sin. How can one come back from it? How can one repent for it?

Do not despair of the Mercy of Allah, indeed Allah forgives all sins. Repentance means that you regret your action, make the intention not to do it again and change your behavior. If you can, and there will not be any harmful consequences, you can speak to the person that was the subject of the backbiting. Make du'a for them, and ask forgiveness for the people involved in the backbiting.

Shaykh Waleed Basyouni further answers the question.
