How do I get more casting distance with micro fishing lures? I get this question all the time, so I felt it was time I make a video on this subject. As you know, I love ultralight fishing for numerous species of fish. One of my favorite ways to catch anything that swims is to throw tiny jigs and let them sink slowly through the water column. That super slow rate of fall paired with a tiny realistic profile just flat out gets bit.

The hard part, however, is casting them effectively. When I say ultralight lures, I am talking about less than 1/16oz. Anything 1/16oz and above is pretty easy to cast on most setups. The 1/64oz or even 1/80oz Mule Jigs absolutely wreck fish, but they can take some special techniques to cast.

First off, you NEED the proper gear. I talk a lot about that in this video. Reel, Rod, & Line all play a critical role in this. Secondly, you need to learn how to cast the right way. While it isn't much different than casting a standard lure, it does require a bit more "flick of the wrist".
