Robert Mitchum and a Double Dose of Hoppy! FALSE COLORS is one of the better Hopalong Cassidy films and, as usual, it has an exceptional cast. William Boyd, who became a multimillionaire when he bought the character rights to the fictional Bar-20 cowpoke, is wonderful as Hoppy. Andy Clyde is his lovable sidekick who almost tangles with bad guy, and rising star, Robert Mitchum. Instead, Boyd and Mitchum have a barroom brawl. It’s all due to the murder of the heir to a cattle ranch who left his holdings to Hoppy and his two pals, Clyde and newcomer, Jimmy Rogers (Will’s son).

Adding to the delight in this 1943 Lone Pine shot film is the nefarious Douglas Dumbrille, plus, Glenn Strange, Roy Barcroft, Tom London, and the indispensable (for B westerns, anyway) Earle Hodgins.

2nd film in the Hoppy double bill is “Frontier Law” starring William Boyd as Hoppy with a new sidekick, Edgar Buchanan as Red Connors. Boyd was one of the first to enter television and HOPALONG CASSIDY became a huge hit in prime time on NBC. This TV episode features Bill Henry, Barbara Knudson, Marshall Reed, and Dan White.
