The last day of the season was extremely bizarre and chaotic. We saw some free chicken wings, players completely zoning out and passing it to the ref, and a team losing the game on purpose to avoid a certain playoff matchup. So let’s start there actually.
The Cavs were in play to clinch the number 2 spot in the east, but they knew that in that case, they would likely play the Sixers or the Heat.
So, in a desperate and cowardly act, Cleveland who was up by 13 at the beginning of the 4th quarter, benched every meaningful player, and played the rest of the game with their end of the bench guys. Pete Nance, Damian Jones, Isaiah Mobley and Emoni Bates played the entire 4th quarter which the Hornets won 32 to 14. So the tank job was successful, and the Cavs lost this game falling down to the 4th seed and now facing the Magic in the first round.
I personally despise losing mentality like this and avoiding opponents just to say that you lost in the second round and not in the first. So all I can say for that matchup is go Magic!
The Knicks however showed that they don’t care who they face in the first round, so they played to win in this absolute thriller ending against the Bulls.
So after this suffocating defense by OG Anunoby on Derozan, the Knicks had a chance to win this game, and of course they went to Jalen Brunson.
Wooow, you could hear the entire arena exhaling as they were ready to explode here.
So in overtime, the battle continued because…
The Knicks were able to create a bit of breathing room a few times, but Chicago always came right back with an answer of their own, making this an absolutely wild finish.
And things completely escalated in the final seconds…
Are you kidding me! Knicks I almost died here you can’t be doing this to me. I don’t have the strength to endure this in the playoffs as well.
And speaking of the playoffs, New York secured the second spot in the east, and now waits for the winner between Philly and Miami in the play-in, for a crazy first round matchup.
In New Orleans, the Pelicans needed to win to stay at number 6 getting them straight in the playoffs.
But as shocking as it sounds, this game looked just like their in-season tournament matchup, where the Lakers won the game by 44 points, exposing Zion’s inability to shoot the ball.
Whenever Williamson got the ball, LeBron was waiting for him way down the lane, and 2 more Lakers were ready at all times to clog the paint if he ever tried to penetrate inside. They left him wide open for these shots as he was miserable shooting the ball, 4 for 13 only 30.8% from the field.
The Lakers led by as many as 32 in a dominant wire to wire win on the road, and now they meet again Tuesday night for the play-in.
The winner of their matchup however will go on to face the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets. So, good luck to both teams.
And this is another reason why the Pels fell down to the play in. Phoenix needed to win against Minnesota who were fighting for the top spot in the West so they came out trying to win this game.
And that’s what makes this Suns win impressive, as they came out guns blazing, led by Bradley Beal who is stepping up as the hero of this team for the past few games.
36 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for Beal on 66% from the field, getting a crucial win for Phoenix who now go straight to the playoffs and funny enough, this is going to be the matchup.
Suns vs Timberwolves in what’s about to be an absolute shootout.
This is without a doubt the greatest feel-good story of the season, as the Thunder went from the 10th seed last to the top of the west in just 1 season. The most shocking turnaround that I’ve ever seen.
They needed to win against Dallas to stay at the top and boy did they ever…
A damn near 50 point win against the Mavs who admittedly didn’t have anything to play for and rested all their top guns.
Still, a great finish of the season for the Thunder and now the vibes are immaculate.
The last day was definitely a wild ride, but it was nothing compared to the greatest night of the season that came just a few days ago. You gotta check out the absolute madness right here in this video. Talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
