India's economic growth sped up unexpectedly in 4Q2023. Economists had forecast the pace of growth to slow, but the world's fastest-growing major economy expanded 8.4% in the three months ended December. A moderation in government spending and uneven monsoon were expected to weigh on growth. Instead, robust manufacturing and construction activity buoyed the economy.
