About:
The PlayStation VR2 (PS VR2) is an upcoming virtual reality headset for the PlayStation 5 home video game console developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment set to be released February 22, 2023.[2][3]

History
Sony's first PlayStation VR was released in 2016. Sony announced the PlayStation VR2 for the PlayStation 5 at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show.[4][5]

A release date of February 22, 2023, and a retail price of $549.99 was announced in November 2, 2022 at the official PlayStation Blog.[6]

Hardware
The headset will connect to the PlayStation 5 console with a single USB-C cable.[2] Unlike the first generation PlayStation VR, which tracked player movements through an external PlayStation Camera, the PS VR2 will track movements by four cameras mounted on the headset.[2][3]

The PlayStation VR2 will have an OLED panel with a 4K display resolution.[2] Each display will have a resolution of 2,000 x 2,040 pixels.[3] The headset has two inward-facing eye-tracking cameras. It uses eye-tracking to enable games to use Foveated rendering, a performance optimization technique where the render resolution of the game is reduced in areas where the player is not looking.[3]

The PS VR2 will also feature the new "Sense" controllers.[2] The features of these controllers include the same haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the DualSense, as well as some limited finger tracking.[2]

PS VR2 cannot play first generation PS VR games. Sony explains that this is because the PS VR2 was designed to deliver "a truly next-generation VR experience".[7][8]

Games and content
More than 20 games are in development for PS VR2 from PlayStation Studios and third party partners, including Resident Evil Village, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution, No Man's Sky, Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge, Demeo and PS VR2 exclusive Horizon Call of the Mountain.[9] Gran Turismo 7 and Beat Saber were also confirmed in January.[10]

Reception
Early previews have been positive.[2] The Sense controllers received acclaim from CNET.[3] The lack of backward compatibility, and the price of the headset received mixed reaction.[11][12][13][14]
