PLEASE READ THE FULL DESCRIPTION - more info has been added.

This is my 2005 Silverado 5.3 B motor with 81K miles doing the GM slap. Yes... this is a gasoline motor. Cold start, has been sitting ~12 hours, went down into the mid-20's overnight, now about 30F. I move the camera around alot so you can hear exactly what is going on. Can you see the rear main seal leak from the passenger side?? This is my third GM truck and will likely be my last. Background: Purchased new, Mobil 1 every 5K since 1K. Started making some noise around 60K in 2009, noise would go away after about 30 seconds. It's getting progressively worse and now lasts for upwards of 2 minutes (as seen in the video). Blackstone Labs oil report shows elevated iron levels and pretty much confirms the slap issue. In the video I start the truck and immediately shift in to reverse (with the parking brake on) because the noise is alot more obvious under a little load. This truck has seen only light towing/hauling and has no hardware mods. I use a Predator tuner in the 87-octane mode with no timing/injection changes just to correct the lousy GM throttle response. Questions/comments welcomed.

** UPDATE **

So, after sweating over the engine noise for a couple years or so my transmission blew with 84,400 miles. Figures. A GM-rebuilt 4L60E has been installed and I'm going to try to make 150K on this thing.

*** MORE info

I started having the oil tests performed very early as I initially intended to keep this truck for a very long time. I would have the oil tested every second or third oil change. Here are the iron numbers, PPM, for all 7 tests that I have had done. The Universal Average for iron is 19:

MILES Iron (PPM)
1011 17
12415 16
22089 15
34956 15
55033 27
68114 47
78900 86

*** Last update - The crate transmission started acting up under warranty, but the dealer couldn't find any problems. I traded this truck with 110K and it was almost immediately sold to a new owner. Good luck.
