Standard grammar sets rules for what is correct or incorrect in the language. Although that creates a standard everyone can follow, the rules are not always very intuitive. In fact, they often conflict with our internal grammar and end up causing confusion and even grammar anxiety, which leads to hypercorrection and uncertainty.

GRAMMAR CHALLENGE:
Is there a standard grammar error in the sentence below? If so, tell us what the correction should be in the comments.
“When an infant or even an older toddler cries or shows other signs of distress, an attentive parent should provide physical comfort while trying to figure out what their needs are.”
