I spend a week with the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan in its SE R-Line Black trim. There's many things the Tiguan excels at, like having some of the best handling in its class along with steering, brakes and throttle response that all feel great. It also has lots of room inside and is one of very few crossovers in this segment that offer a 3rd row. Unfortunately, it's let down by a powertrain that isn't as sporty as it may seem, along with a sometimes unrefined transmission, poor nighttime visibility with the halogen headlights, and less available safety tech than most of the competitors. Overall, if you value handling or roominess above all else, the Tiguan may be for you, but otherwise, many of the competing crossovers offer more for the same money or less.
