Volkswagen have launched their new Arteon on the Irish market. Dubbed the ‘spiritual successor’ to the CC, the five-seat fastback will sit above the Passat in the range and looks likely to challenge some more premium rivals such as the A5 Sportback with its striking design.

Longer and wider than the Passat, it boasts an impressive boot capacity of 563 litres and generous legroom for rear seat passengers. The interior is a premium take on a classic VW design, with some fine chrome piping adding a touch of class to those familiar sweeping lines. The state of the art infotainment system features a larger screen and more intuitive interface.

Under the hood is a 2.0l TDI turbocharged diesel engine, available in three different power outputs of 150, 190 and 240hp respectively. Only the 150hp model will have the option of a 6-speed manual transmission. The rest will come with a 7 speed DSG automatic gearbox, with the top of the range 240hp model also offering Volkswagen’s ‘4MOTION’ four-wheel-drive system as standard.

There will be three trim levels available here. The entry-level Arteon comes generously equipped with standard 18’’ alloy wheels, comfort seats, an eight inch colour touchscreen, three zone air-conditioning, predictive cruise control and a Security and Service subscription as standard. This will allow you to monitor the vehicles health and receive maintenance reminders via a mobile phone app. It also provides and emergency call service and enables a new ‘Car-Net’ system which allows you to access various other functions remotely.

The two upgrades available are the ‘Elegance’ model which focuses on comfort, or the R-line which improves the driving dynamics and styling.
Features on the Elegance model include an Alcantara and leather interior trim, ambient lighting in the cabin, 18” ‘Muscat’ alloy wheels, LED rear lights, Voice control, Active Info Display and a Rear View Camera.

The R-Line gets 19” ‘Montevideo’ alloy wheels, running rear indicators, voice control and adaptive chassis control on the 240 hp diesel (optional on other R-Line models). It also gets the full R-line styling kit including an R-Line steering wheel, seats, scuff plates and exterior badging and bumpers.
