Toyota has recently expanded its truck lineup with the launch of the 2024 Tacoma Trailhunter, a robust vehicle designed primarily for off-road and overlanding adventures. Initially showcased as a concept at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, the Trailhunter builds on the foundation laid by the Tundra model, bringing a fresh dynamic to Toyota’s offerings.

This new model slots into the Tacoma range as a premium option, complementing existing trims such as the SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro. What sets the Trailhunter apart is its specialized suspension system, featuring a unique shock setup and a multi-link, coil-sprung rear suspension, attributes typically reserved for the higher-tier trims.

The Trailhunter is available with a four-door Double Cab configuration and provides a choice of either a 5-foot or 6-foot bed. It mirrors the high-end TRD Pro in terms of standard equipment and is powered by the i-Force Max hybrid powertrain. This system pairs a 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with a 48-hp electric motor, delivering a combined output of 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, all managed through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Inside, the truck is equipped with a range of advanced features including a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 14-inch multimedia display, head-up display, and both heated and cooled front seats. It also comes with a portable JBL FLEX Bluetooth speaker. Safety is bolstered by Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 3.0, ensuring a secure driving experience.

For enhanced off-road capability, Toyota has teamed up with the Australian company ARB to include Old Man Emu (OME) position-sensitive 2.5-inch forged monotube shocks. This suspension is engineered for optimal off-road performance and load capacity. Additionally, the Trailhunter features a distinctive high-mount air intake "snorkel" and an integrated air compressor for easy tire pressure adjustments.

Protective measures on the Trailhunter include steel skid plates that cover the front end, transmission, and rear differential, along with frame-mounted rock rails and a high-clearance exhaust tip to minimize potential damage during rugged drives.

Toyota also offers the Associated Accessory Products (AAP) program for the Trailhunter, allowing customers to personalize their trucks with various camping and adventure accessories available directly from the dealership.

Set to be available in early 2024, the Tacoma Trailhunter is poised to be competitively priced within the high-end segment of the Tacoma lineup, promising to introduce an exciting new element to Toyota’s range of adventure-oriented vehicles.
