My friend, Groundhogs founder and guitarist Tony McPhee has died at the age of 79. The singer, guitarist and songwriter suffered a series of strokes in later life. I worked closely with Tony from the late 1970s as his agent and personal manager.

A statement on Tony McPhee's official Facebook page said: "We are deeply saddened to announce that 79-year-old guitar and blues legend Tony (TS) McPhee died peacefully at home today, 6th June, from complications following a fall last year." This is my tribute to the former Groundhogs guitar hero and friend. The Groundhogs were one of the headliners of the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival and had three UK top 10 albums before they broke up for the first time in 1976.
