If you have a small living space, there’s not much you can do to change the square footage, but you can make your living room appear larger with a few visual decorating tricks.
If you’re trying to make your living room look larger first, experiment with layout, zone the space and create visual pathways through it. Go vertical with your storage, freeing up as much floor space as possible by using floor to ceiling shelving, baskets and credenzas to store small items. Constantly simplify. You can also make the room appear bigger by laying down a large area rug that covers and unifies the floorspace. Of course, mirrors create the illusion of depth and bounce light throughout the space. Lastly, be extra intentional about the furniture you choose, selecting pieces that are appropriately sized for the space and serve multiple functions.
