This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 small premium SUVs. The Audi Q3 is just over an inch longer and wider than the BMW X1. But, the BMW offers half an inch more front and rear legroom and an extra 10.7 cubic feet in overall cargo space.The X1 and Q3 both have a 2L turbocharged 4 cylinder with an 8 speed automatic transmission, 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The Audi also offers a base model engine with 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque for a lower starting price of $37,250 CAD/$34,000 USD. We’ll be focusing on Audi’s higher output engine. The Q3 comes standard with an impressive amount of features like an 8.8 inch touchscreen, a 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, leather seating surfaces, a panoramic glass roof and heated front seats. Standard on the top trim is a 10.1” touchscreen, a 12.3” digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple Carplay and a heated steering wheel. The larger screens are available in the Navigation package on the middle trim for $2,250 CAD. The Q3 does not come with driver seat memory. The X1 comes standard with an 8.8 touchscreen, heated leatherette front seats, leather sport steering wheel, power driver and passenger seats, driver seat memory, Apple Carplay, but no Android Auto. Add the premium package for $3,995 CAD for features like a heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, comfort access and ambient lighting.The Q3 comes with plenty of standard features including, an 8.8 inch touchscreen, a 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, leather seating surfaces, a panoramic glass roof and heated front seats. Standard on the top trim is a 10.1” touchscreen, a 12.3” digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple Carplay, a heated steering wheel and a Bang & Olufsen sound system. The larger screens are available in the Navigation package on the middle trim for $2,250 CAD. The Q3 does not come with heated rear seats or driver seat memory. The BMW X1 has a driver-focused cockpit, which shows off the X1’s sporty personality.
It comes standard with an 8.8 touchscreen with BMW’s iDrive system, heated leatherette front seats, brushed aluminum trim, leather sport steering wheel, power driver and passenger seats and driver seat memory. Leather seats are available for $1500 CAD. Apple Carplay comes standard but there is no Android Auto. The Audi Q3 is just over an inch longer and wider than the BMW X1. But, the BMW offers half an inch more front legroom and over 2 inches more front headroom than the Audi. In the second row the X1 has almost an inch more legroom and almost 2 inches more headroom. The X1 is also the winner in cargo space offering 3.4 cubic feet more space behind the second row and 10.7 cubic feet in overall cargo capacity.
