Why You Hate These Characters More Than The Baddest Villains Themselves!

There are some villains so terrible, so conniving, so sinister, that you can’t help but look at the actor playing them and think: they’ve just gotta be evil, too. Okay, so, they probably aren't, but sometimes it’s hard to separate an actor from a particularly good evil mastermind. We definitely haven’t looked at Imelda Staunton the same way since she played Dolores Umbridge in “Harry Potter”, and Jack Gleeson’s signature smirk has taken on a whole new meaning after he played Joffrey Baratheon in “Game of Thrones.” It’s also easy to be intimidated by Donald Sutherland since he portrayed the wicked President Snow in the “Hunger Games”, and Justin Prentice seems like a good guy but his role as Bryce Walker in “13 Reasons Why” definitely can’t be described as “nice.”

It’s not always career-ruining, though. All of these actors have had pretty great roles, but we can’t help but want to keep seeing them as terrifying villains. There’s Cillian Murphy, who traumatized audiences in “Batman Begins” with his creepy take on Scarecrow. There’s also the White Witch from “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe”, who gave us all nightmares as kids. And what about kooky and crazy Aro Volturi from “Twilight?” Michael Sheen’s creepy smile and even creepier laugh get us every time. So, from Lord Voldemort to Moff Gideon and Christoph Waltz to Alexander Skarsgard, here are some of the best actors who have played the most terrifying villains, and why they’re so terrific at being terrible.
