On June 17, 1985 at 3pm EST, John Hendricks' vision became a reality as Discovery Channel debuted to 156,000 subscribers across the United States. Iceberg Alley, the network's first program, was a documentary about the frigid waters of
the North Atlantic and even prompted a call from a teacher in Kansas inquiring about showing the program to her students.
