Thyroid issues like weight gain and low energy occur a lot during and after menopause but hormone replacement therapy and bioidentical hormones are NOT the answer. An underactive thyroid condition is called Hashimotos and and overactive thyroid is called Graves. I do not like to use the word disease because that makes people feel like helpless victims. Those thyroid conditions are merely symptoms of other things happening in the body, usually diet and lifestyle related. Sure radiation, xrays and low iodine are causes, but there are so many more that most people don't realize. Almost all of the causes are totally reversible but it requires diet and lifestyle changes.
