Former general Iroh is by far one of the best characters in Nickelodeon’s ATLA. He provides such wisdom and hope not just to the characters, but to us as the viewers!
He may have been a firebending teacher to Zuko at the beginning of the series, but by the end, we learn he is such a deep character that has dealt with a lot of loss in his life (who remembers the heartbreaking “Little Soldier Boy / Leaves from the vine!).
Iroh’s journey in the physical world did continue in the comics, continuing to run his tea shop the Jasmine Dragon in Ba Sing Se. Even though he got up to a little more, we learn in the Legend of Korra once he passed on, he chose to live in the Spirit World. It’s there we learn he became acquainted with Aang and Katara’s children, Tenzin, Kya and Bumi. We also learn he has been there for quite a while, and has even built his own tea shop!
But what did he get up to between these encounters? We’ll dive into this mystery to find out the history of the ol’ Dragon of the West!
