When calculating one's net family property, it is important to be as accurate as possible. One aspect of this calculation involves finding out your net worth at the date of marriage, so that you can deduct it from your net worth at valuation (usually separation) date.
Filling out Form 13.1 (financial disclosure form for family proceedings in Ontario, Canada) is tricky.
In this new set of videos, lawyer Shmuel Stern of Disclosure Clinic explains how to deduct one's net worth at date of marriage when calculating the net family property.
Next week, we will get into the Form 13.1 itself.
