Formalloy, a California-based supplier of powder- and wire-fed directed energy deposition (DED) technology for metal 3D printing, is used to skepticism when it comes to printing parts as alternatives to castings. But through a combination of on-machine sensors, in-process monitoring, and post-print data analysis and reporting, the company is able to provide far more specific and detailed information about the creation of a printed part than would ever be possible to learn about a casting.
